About the role
ABOUT THE COMPANY:
Redesign Health https://www.redesignhealth.com is a global venture and applied technology firm focused on building next-generation healthcare companies. We manage venture capital and venture buyout strategies, each powered by an AI operating system and team of leading technologists, entrepreneurs, and investors.
Our venture capital strategy backs exceptional founders at the earliest stage—often before an idea is fully formed—and provides first institutional capital and an unmatched degree of strategic leverage and domain expertise through exit. Our venture buyout strategy partners with proven management teams through control investments and delivers outsized value by rewiring core products and workflows with AI.
Since inception in 2018, Redesign and our portfolio companies have touched the lives of more than 15 million patients, raised over $1.5 billion from premier institutional, sovereign, and strategic investors, and built distinctive partnerships with marquee healthcare organizations and senior leaders around the world.
Redesign is based in New York and has offices in Bengaluru, Los Angeles, and Riyadh.
ABOUT THE TEAM:
Redesign's technology practice combines a frontier applied AI lab with deep healthtech investing expertise. Members of the practice have founded companies worth more than two billion dollars and built systems that serve hundreds of millions of patients, providers, and expert users, and run inside NASA, CIA, and 90% of the Fortune 500.
The practice is responsible for Redesign's technical investments, supports founders with architect-level guidance and more than a million dollars in AI and cloud credits, and builds the agentic operating system at the core of our business. Just as importantly, we help every team at Redesign use that system to become more technical, more creative, and more self-sufficient. We believe everyone is a builder, and that AI can let exceptional operators turn their expertise into software at the speed of thought.
We are a team of founders and researchers, musicians and astrophysicists, caregivers and friends. We prize analytical rigor, intellectual humility, and a drive to learn, build, and teach. We have been working on language models since before they were large, but we still reinvent ourselves every day as technology changes how we work and collaborate. We believe that AI will do more good for humanity in healthcare than anywhere else. We know the most impactful member of our team will be someone we have not yet met, and we cannot wait to learn from them.
ABOUT THE JOB:
We're hiring an ambitious, self-initiated, product-minded Principal Applied AI Engineer to build the agentic workflows that power Redesign’s most important decisions: the founders we back, the concepts we pursue, the people we hire, the investors we work with, and the healthcare partners we support. You will turn messy, high-judgment business workflows into scalable, self-learning systems that compound the firm’s impact.
You will ship with the ownership of a founder and the judgment of an investor. You keep current with frontier AI research and retool your tradecraft every day. You will join a global team of former founders, architects, and research scientists in a high-leverage role. Your peers will be among the most senior technical and business leaders at the firm. Interested and qualified candidates may hire and manage additional engineers as needed.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Redefine healthcare investing as a technical discipline. You will design and ship AI systems to unlock one of the world's densest and highest-impact repositories of healthtech venture knowledge. You will embed with our investment, talent, and global development teams to solve problems in deep research, alternative people and organizational data, and human-agent interaction. You will constantly raise the bar on the level of technical sophistication that we embody and offer to our founders, portfolio, and healthcare partners.
- Push the frontier of applied AI. You will build durable, long-horizon agents, combine complex human judgment with context engineering and self-improving feedback loops, and constantly invent things that didn't exist yesterday. As appropriate, you will publish, open-source, and share what you learn across our portfolio, our healthcare partners, and the broader research community.
- Raise the technical bar across the company. You will use the work you ship to teach the organization what AI can do, contribute reusable patterns back to our core systems, and help teammates and portfolio companies understand how to build differently in an AI-native world.
- Create global patient impact. As a technologist-investor, you will source, assess, inspire, and close exceptional founders, then support them in building enduring, transformative health technology companies that serve millions of patients and providers around the world.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
We value and actively seek exceptional talent from all backgrounds and experiences, recognizing that excellence takes many forms. We care less about the specific arena than about clear evidence of superlative peer-relative performance: being selected into high-talent environments, distinguishing yourself within them, earning unusually broad scope or trusted ownership, progressing rapidly, or doing work that changed the trajectory of a team, product, company, or field. While every path is different, we believe the most successful candidates for this role will share the following characteristics:
- You have spent 10+ years in a senior technical role at a major venture-backed startup, frontier AI lab, or investment firm. Bonus points for founding a company and building a product from 0-1, or for meaningful time inside a VC or similar.
- You are an expert in Python and/or TypeScript and have written and reviewed millions of lines of code. You are proficient with modern agent frameworks (Lang* / Deep Agents, the Anthropic A
