Robotics Engineer, Teleoperation

Skild AI · San Mateo, CA

Found in last night's run on Skild AI's Greenhouse board.

About the role

Company Overview At Skild AI, we are building the world's first general purpose robotic intelligence that is robust and adapts to unseen scenarios without failing. We believe massive scale through data-driven machine learning is the key to unlocking these capabilities for the widespread deployment of robots within society. Our team consists of individuals with varying levels of experience and backgrounds, from new graduates to domain experts. Relevant industry experience is important, but ultimately less so than your demonstrated abilities and attitude. We are looking for passionate individuals who are eager to explore uncharted waters and contribute to our innovative projects. Position Overview We are seeking a Robotics Engineer to own our teleop systems. Teleoperation is a key source of the data that trains our models, and you will make it more reliable and capable over time. You will be the first point of contact when teleop issues block data collection, and you will continuously evaluate and integrate the latest teleop hardware and software, from VR headsets and trackers to retargeting methods, robot end-effectors, and beyond. You will work at the frontier of robot teleoperation, helping define how humans teach robots at scale. This is a hands-on role at the center of our data engine. You will work closely with ML, robotics, and data operations teams, as well as the operators who collect data every day. Responsibilities

Triage and fix teleop issues that block data collection, from tracking and retargeting to latency and data recording. Build tools and monitoring that catch teleop failures before they cost collection time. Evaluate and integrate new teleop hardware and software, including VR headsets, glove and body trackers, and retargeting methods. Benchmark robot end-effectors for teleoperation performance and data quality. Work with operators to make teleop faster, more reliable, and easier to use.

Preferred Qualifications

BS, MS or higher degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Proficiency in Python and C++. Experience developing or debugging software on real robots. Experience with teleoperation, VR/AR (e.g., OpenXR, Unity), or motion capture systems. Experience with video streaming systems (e.g., GStreamer) and basic computer vision principles. Familiarity with robot kinematics, inverse kinematics, and motion retargeting. Experience with Linux, networking, and ROS/ROS2 or similar robotics middleware. Experience with dexterous hands, humanoids, or other high-DoF robots is a plus.
