Most people sit down to update their resume and realize they can't remember what they did. Build the accomplishments bank first.

"I helped grow revenue" is not a receipt. "$2.3M in net new ARR, 118% of quota, Q3 2023" is a receipt. Pull old performance reviews, Slack threads, 1:1 notes - they're full of specifics you've already forgotten.

The receipt formula

[Action verb] + [What you did] + [Measurable result]. Do this for your last 3 roles before you touch the resume formatting.

"Senior Product Manager" tells them your title. A real headline tells them your value.

ATS reality check

75% of resumes get filtered by ATS software before a human ever sees them. That's the iceberg most candidates hit and never realize. Four rules:

The ATS rules

  • Single column. Standard fonts. The two-column resume with icons looks great on screen. ATS auto-rejects it.
  • "Salesforce" and "CRM tools" mean the same thing to a human. To an ATS, they're a miss. Mirror the JD's exact language.
  • Numbers on every bullet. If you can't attach a number, attach a scale ("team of 8," "across 3 time zones," "14 clients").
  • File name matters. Save as FirstLast_Resume_CompanyName.pdf for Tier 1.
